What is testosterone replacement therapy?
Testosterone replacement therapy restores testosterone to a normal range in men whose levels have fallen below it. Testosterone affects energy, muscle mass, body fat, mood, libido, concentration and bone density. Levels decline gradually with age, and faster with some medical conditions, obesity, poor sleep and certain medications.
Low testosterone usually shows up as a cluster of symptoms. Fatigue that sleep does not fix, loss of muscle and strength, weight gain around the middle, low mood or irritability, reduced libido, and difficulty concentrating are the most common.
TRT supplements what the body no longer produces. Your clinician confirms low levels with bloodwork, looks for other causes, and prescribes a dose that brings you back into range. Levels are rechecked on a schedule and the dose adjusted. Markers such as hematocrit and PSA are monitored throughout to keep treatment safe.
TRT is for men with symptoms and confirmed low testosterone on testing. If your labs come back in the normal range, your clinician will tell you, and treatment is not prescribed.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
The most common are persistent fatigue, loss of muscle and strength, increased body fat, low mood or irritability, reduced libido and trouble concentrating. Symptoms alone do not confirm low testosterone. A blood test does, which is why every SaltMD plan starts with a hormone panel.
-
Your clinician looks at your symptoms and your lab results. Low testosterone treatment is considered when testosterone is below the normal range on testing and you have symptoms that match. If your levels are normal, TRT is not prescribed.
-
After your hormone panel confirms low levels, your clinician prescribes testosterone at a starting dose. You are retested on a schedule, and the dose is adjusted until your levels are stable in range. Safety markers such as hematocrit and PSA are checked along the way.
-
Libido and energy often improve within the first few weeks. Mood and concentration usually follow. Changes in muscle mass, strength and body fat take longer, typically three to six months, and depend on training and nutrition alongside treatment.
-
Yes. Consultations are available by video from anywhere in the US. Your hormone panel is done at a lab near you, results are reviewed by your clinician, and your prescription is shipped by a pharmacy. Follow-up labs work the same way.
